Questions, answered

How do Deaf and hard-of-hearing people watch movies?

Two ways, depending on what suits you. Closed captions show the dialogue, speaker labels and meaningful sounds as text. Sign language gives a fluent, signed interpretation of the film as video. With the KinoSync app, either one appears on your phone in perfect time with the screening — so you follow everything alongside the rest of the audience.

What's the difference between closed captions and sign language?

Closed captions (CC) display the dialogue, speaker cues and descriptions of meaningful sounds as on-screen text. Sign language (SL) is a fluent video interpretation by a signer, which for many Deaf audiences carries tone and emotion that text alone can't. KinoSync offers both, so you can choose what works for you.

Do I need special equipment at the cinema?

No. There's no special hardware and no dedicated accessible screening required. Open KinoSync on your phone, choose captions or sign language and press play — your track stays in time with the film for the whole screening.

Can I change the caption size or move the signer?

Yes. You can set the caption text size and contrast to read comfortably, and position the sign language video where it suits you — keeping your eyes free to follow the screen.

Which films have closed captions and sign language?

You can browse every film available with each track on the KinoSync movies page — each title lists exactly which of audio description, closed captions and sign language it supports.
